A Place to Learn, Belong, Achieve and Thrive

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we come to the end of a busy and rewarding term, it is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on all that has been achieved across our school community. Throughout the semester, our students have continued to learn, grow and embrace new opportunities, while our staff have worked tirelessly to provide engaging learning experiences and support every child to succeed. We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing partnership we share with our families, whose encouragement and involvement play such an important role in making Caladenia Primary School A Place to Learn, Belong, Achieve and Thrive. As we conclude Semester 1, we thank you for your continued support and look forward with excitement to the opportunities that Term 3 will bring.

Dream Job Dress Up Day

On Thursday, 18 June, we all dressed up as our ‘Dream Job’. The Student Executive organised this charity event to raise money for ‘Give Write’, who raises money to purchase stationery supplies for disadvantaged families. It was great to see the variety of different ‘Dream Jobs’ and the effort that students and parents put into this event. There were lots of different dream jobs and it was great to see the enthusiasm and fun that everyone had on the day. The Student Executive raised $473.80, which is an amazing result. The next charity event the Student Executive are organising is Crazy Hair Day, which will be Wednesday, 19 September in Week 9 of Term 3.

Interschool Winter Carnival

Our Year 5 and 6 students participated in the Winter Interschool Carnival on Friday, 19 June. The teams involved in Netball, soccer, AFL and League Tag. The teams all played extremely well, and with the overall points from each of the games played Caladenia PS was the overall winning team on the day. We are really proud of the efforts and sportsmanship that our teams displayed on the day.

Centre for Excellence Graduation

Friday, 19 June also saw the schools that we have been working with for the last year graduate from the Centre of Excellence program. Ms Victoria Avery and Ms Paula Asplin attended the graduation to congratulate Safety Bay PS, Subiaco PS, Vasse PS and Aspiri PS on their achievement. This concludes the three years that Caladenia PS committed to the Centre of Excellence program. During the program we supported twelve schools that we worked with to strengthen their explicit literacy teaching practices, supporting students across the public education system. The Centre of Excellence team were very grateful with our support over the last three years stating that our contribution will continue to influence schools, teachers and students long into the future.

Channel 9 Junior Weather Watch

Ms Dos Santos’ Year 2 class welcomed the Channel 9 Junior Weather Watch team on Monday, 22 June to the school. We were able to share the news clip at our Junior Assembly on Wednesday, 24 June. All the children were so proud to participate in the event and are continuing to monitor the mini weather kit and share the weather at our school with Channel 9.

School Cross Country

Our school Cross Country was held on Tuesday, 23 June. The weather was magnificent and many parents came along to cheer for the students. This year we saw the course change for the older year levels and them run through and around the school. The students all performed brilliantly with the Red Faction coming first with 852 points, Blue Faction coming second with 799 points, Green Faction coming third with 701 points and Gold Faction coming a close fourth with 693 points. Thank you to all the staff that assisted both before the event and on the day. Thank you to the students and their efforts on the day and for all the parents that came along to support the school event.

P&C Disco

On Thursday, 25 June, the P&C held a disco for the Kindy and Pre-Primary students in the play area. All the students enjoyed the dancing and purchased a gift bag.

On Friday, 26 June, the P&C held the disco for the Year 1 to Year 6 students. The P&C and volunteers held three discos on the night, a Year 1 & 2, a Year 3 & 4 and finally a Year 5 & 6. The students all had a great time and as always were well behaved. Thank you to our P&C for all their efforts and work that goes into organising events such as these. The school, students, and community all appreciate the opportunity to participate in these events and are grateful for the work that the P&C does for our school.

The new term will see the lunchtime Clubs start up again, now that swimming isn’t affecting the availability for students to attend. We will also celebrate NAIDOC Week in our first week back, with our NAIDOC Assembly organised for Thursday, 23 July, we hope that you can all come along.

There are many other events that are coming up in Term 3, please check the term planner, that will be emailed to you shortly so that you can keep up to date with the many exciting events planned.

Next term, we welcome Ms Jayde Hewson, as our new Principal. Ms Hewson visited last Friday for a short time and had the chance to meet some of the students and staff. We look forward to her joining the school and continuing to lead Caladenia PS as the great school that it is.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff at Caladenia PS for their professionalism, positivity and willingness to support one another throughout the term to ensure that our students have continued to thrive. I truly appreciate the dedication, care, and support that each of them brings to the school every day.

We hope that you all enjoy the holiday break. To the students take time to rest, recharge and spend time doing things that you enjoy with family and friends. To the parents and carers enjoy this time with your children and thank you for your continued support that you give to our school.

Kind regards,

Paula Asplin

Winter Carnival

Caladenia Triumphs as Champion School at Winter Carnival!

What a spectacular day of sport, spirit, and success! On Friday, 19th June, our upper primary students headed out to compete in the 2026 Interschool Winter Carnival. Caladenia Primary School was incredibly well-represented, entering between one and three teams across four different sports: AFL, Soccer, Netball, and League Tag.

Throughout the day, our students demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship and true grit. Whether they were defending a goal, chasing down a tag, or cheering from the sidelines, every single student represented Caladenia with immense pride and exemplary behaviour.

Outstanding Results

The competition was fierce, but our teams rose to the challenge with some phenomenal results:

Soccer B Team: Champions! A massive congratulations to the B team for winning their grade.
We had an incredible run of second-place finishes across the board, proving just how deep our talent pool is. Well done to all three Netball teams, the Soccer A team, the AFL team, and the League Tag B team for finishing as runners-up in their respective divisions!

Overall Shield Winners!

Because of our consistently high placings and the collective effort of every single competitor, Caladenia was officially named the Champion School of the Winter Carnival 2026! Bringing home the champion shield is a massive achievement. A huge congratulations to all the students who participated. We also extend a massive thank you to our dedicated teachers who put in hours of coaching, organising, and mentoring to prepare our athletes for the day. Go Caladenia!

Year 2 Room 28 Features on 9News Junior Weather Watch!

Year 2 Room 28 recently enjoyed an exciting and memorable incursion as part of the 9News Junior Weather Watch program.

We were fortunate to welcome Natalia Cooper and the 9News team into our classroom to share their knowledge about weather forecasting and what it is like to work in a busy news station. Students were highly engaged as they learned about the important role weather plays in our daily lives and gained an insight into the world of television journalism.

As part of the program, our class received a weather monitoring kit, which we will use to observe and record daily weather conditions. Our weather reports were featured on the 9News Junior Weather Watch segment over week 10.

Students also had the opportunity to explore the 9News van, ask questions, and receive some exciting 9News merchandise. It was a wonderful experience!

A big thank you to Natalia Cooper and the 9News team for providing such an engaging experience.

Class News

Year 1 Room 8 – Ms Evans

We had a fantastic day dressing up as our dream jobs last, Thursday, 18th June.

There was a wide variety of occupations in our class and everyone wrote about why they chose their dream job. We also enjoyed raising money for Give Write, a charity that helps children have the stationery they need for school. Thank you to all our parents who donated money for the cause.

Year 3 Room 31 – Mrs Coyle

This term in Year 3, students have been researching, planning, designing, and building their very own bridges. Each bridge was required to meet specific criteria: it had to span 30 cm without support and be strong enough to hold up to 500 kg of weight. The students thoroughly enjoyed the building and testing process. Through reflecting on their results, they recognised that some of their designs needed to be rethought and improved, demonstrating resilience, creativity, and problem-solving skills throughout the project.
