Dear Parents/Care Givers,
Made it!
Well. Who would have thought 2020 was going to be like this? It has certainly shaken up the world and, thankfully, not so much us in WA. We are very lucky in many ways not to be affected by the number of deaths and sickness that is the case in many countries around the world.
Our school has been well protected this year thanks to the wonderful parents who have supported our rules and policies around COVID phases. Teachers have been so considerate of students and have made decisions for the good of children and putting their own health at risk.
Thanks, everyone – you have been truly amazing.
Our Caladenia Year
We have achieved our goals for 2020, even while COVID was hindering our progress at times. Academically we lost very little and socially we had to work a little harder than normal but again, we are satisfied with where we are right now.
Thanks
I thank the staff at Caladenia for sticking to our policies and strategies which have made Caladenia what it is – your commitment to the cause is working wonders at this school.
Our students are amazing people – their enthusiasm for learning and their commitment to excellence has once again made our school one of the top schools in the State.
Thanks to the School Board for their untiring support of our school and for the recent Morning Tea for staff – it was wonderful and much appreciated – it was good for staff to see the Board Members and talk with them.
Thanks to the P&C for the difficult year they have had to also endure. The P&C do a wonderful job in raising much needed funds for the school’s operation as well as build a culture of cooperation and togetherness.
Merry Christmas to all.
We all deserve this to be the best Christmas ever and the most restful holidays we can have. Thanks everyone for a wonderful year and for reminding us that there are more important things in life which we must focus on and learn from this year – things like ‘family is important to us’ and time is more precious than we imagined.
I wish you a very merry Christmas and a joyful and happy New Year.
If you are travelling, be careful and come back safe. If you are staying home, be careful and rest.
Keep well.
MERRY CHRISTMAS and happy holidays.
Kindest regards,
Ted Nastasi
Principal

Year 1 Room 10 – Mrs Fernandes
This term in Science, the Year One children have explored different habitats in Australia and the animals that live in that habitat. They read and discussed various information on each habitat. Children learnt a lot about rainforests, deserts, Australian bush, oceans and wetlands. To enrich their leaning experience, we went on an excursion to Perth Zoo. We had a wonderful day and learnt so much! The children were even ‘Zoo Detectives’. In small groups they had to find a certain animal and use special binoculars to look at their animal, and then work out what the animal eats, where it lives and what it can do. It was an amazing day and the children had so much fun!
Room 3 Room 9 – Miss Donica
Hello and Merry Christmas from Year 3 Room 9!
This term we have been learning about poetry in our writing lessons. We learnt about different types of poems including Shape Poems and Haikus. Shape Poems are poems that are shaped like the thing or object that is being written about.
Haikus are Japanese poems that have 17 syllables but they do not have to rhyme like some other poems. 89 Boardman Road, Canning Vale WA 6155 Tel : 08 6258 9350 www.caladeniaps.wa.edu.au
There is a 5, 7, 5 rule that we need to follow when creating a Haiku. These numbers represent the amount of syllables needed for each line and if you add those numbers together it makes 17! We learnt that Haikus are usually about nature so we decided to go for a walk around the school to look for inspiration to help us write our Haiku poems.
We have really been enjoying learning about poems this term and we have loved creating different poems. We wanted to share one last Haiku with you about Room 9.

Student Achievement
Anastasia, in Year 1, competed in the Aussie Gold Cheer and Dance Competition on the weekend and her team called Mini Novice came first. Well done to Anastasia on a wonderful achievement.
Visual Art highlights 2020
Our wonderful students have created some fantastic work this term in Visual Art across all year levels. Year 1 have made some delightful 3D birds complete with their own mixed media nests.
Year 2’s explored the use of collage to create some beautiful Japanese blossom still life compositions.
Year 3 have experimented with line and texture to create some excellent Bee mono prints on their own painted papers.
In Year 4 students have experimented with use of mark making to create some quirky dog portraits in line.
Year 5’s designed their own 3D superhero using wire, plasticine & mixed media.
Year 6 have explored screen printing and designed their own T-shirt print. I am so proud of the high-quality work our wonderful students here at Caladenia produce each year. I would like to wish all students, staff, and parents a wonderful summer break. See you all in the New Year.
Your Move is a free program helping students get active by increasing walking, scooting and riding to school. Travel behaviour change experts work with Your Move Champions to tackle traffic issues and help provide practical ways to teach & develop sustainability at our school.
Your Move
As this school year ends, we would like to wish you all a very safe and happy Christmas.
We look forward to increasing the number of students riding, walking or scootering to school in 2021.- Nicolle Wall, Your Move School Champion
School Board
On Wednesday, 16 December 2020, the Caladenia School Board held a morning tea to thank the wonderful staff of Caladenia. At every School Board meeting we discuss the outstanding work of all staff and at this time of the year we held a morning tea in their honour to show our appreciation. It was a wonderful opportunity for School Board Members to meet the staff of Caladenia and celebrate with such a dedicated team of staff who work tirelessly for the enrichment of our students, particular through these unprecedented times.
Our Board members are truly passionate about our wonderful school and I would like to formally thank my fellow Board members for their time, their individual expertise they bring to each meeting and the valuable contribution they have made throughout the year. We look forward to working in partnership with Caladenia in 2021 as a collaborative team working for the benefit of our students.
Finally, on behalf of the School Board, we would like to wish you all a very happy festive season and a prosperous 2021.
