The more I live, the more I learn. The more I learn, the more I realize, the less I know.
- Michel Legrand
Dear Parents/Care Givers,
Next year we are hopeful in being able to reintroduce our Parent Interviews and Open Day for the school community, as well as plan for some community-based events where all of us can have some easy, simple fun together. We are working with the P&C to plan for such events in 2022.
Finally, the school is keen to work positively with parents who have childrens’ interests at heart. Please come and talk – I can assure you that we will make you feel welcome and comfortable in any discussion you may wish to have. We cannot “out-guess” what you may want – tell us what you think and we will do our best to accommodate it, if we are able.
I believe the most important thing we need is trust – trust to come and talk – trust that positives can come from it.
We are keen to make this appeal for an effective two-way communication between the school and the parent body.
In 2022, we will have a Parent Development Team in place in the school for parents to share opinions, insights into children at home, cyber security, parenting and many other issues that parents may need.
We are not afraid of change and we take advice very well if you are willing to share in a constructive way.
I pay special homage to the Executive Team (Deputies and MCS), who very seldom are thanked for their hard work and dedication to excellence each and every day with every student in our school. They are special people and ones I could not do without in managing such a large school with over 85 staff and 950 children (over 700 families).
I thank all staff of the school for their commitment to our beautiful children and to one another. It has been a very busy year and I know we are all exhausted and ready for a long holiday break.
Not least, I thank the parents of the school for allowing us to care for and nurture your children for the year. We understand that this comes with an enormous trust in what we do at Caladenia and this humbles us and we understand what special responsibilities that holds for us in our duty of care for all children. Thank you.
Our children are special individuals and we love them dearly for building that trusting relationship with us all and for being such great students in and out of school.
Caladenia wishes our Graduating Class of 2021 the very best future for you and hope that your memories of Caladenia are with you forever. You are a very special group of students and we will miss your individual traits very much – thank you for being “the best you can be” at all times.
We wish the families who are leaving us this year the very best of warm wishes for a bright and joyful future. We hope your time with us has been filled with wonderful memories of support for your children.
We wish you a warm and very Merry Christmas and happy New Year. May you have joy and happiness in your homes over the holiday period.Come back to us safe and sound and in good health.
The lovely Year 4 students had their awesome Recycled Trash Animal Sculptures on display for the day this week. All classes in school had the opportunity to call in on the exhibition in the undercover area and enjoy the wonderful creations made by year 4 throughout the day. It was wonderful to see the students and staffs reactions to the recycling unit, with lots of positive compliments and excitement from the students. Well done to all the year 4’s. I thoroughly enjoyed working on this unit with you all and am super proud of the quality and creativity, shown by the students. Well done.
Year 6 had a go at screen printing this term to end the year on and they all came up with their own unique t-shirt, bag or cushion design. Students created some wonderful ideas to take home and keep as a reminder of their last year at Caladenia.
Mac class created some character heads for a storyline using plastic bottles and papier Mache. The characters created were most charming.
A mix of classes created some new stain glass windows for the undercover area, to add our final splash of colour for the year.
Deepa, Emily and Sierra from year 5, made owls as an Art project. They had to create an owl and give it an age, name and a personality. Below is what they created. Well done girls.
Deepa – A
5 Year-old owl
Sasha – An old mad scientist
Emily – A baby
Sierra – A child who loves candy
Oscar in Year 2 was super excited to receive his Book Award.Congratulations Oscar.
Thank you to all the parents who have sent through articles and photos of their child’s achievements this year. It has been interesting reading and seeing what the children do outside of school hours.
We look forward to seeing lots more articles in 2022.
At Caladenia we love showcasing our students sporting achievements and events as well as any other interests that they would like to share with our Caladenia Community. If you have something your child would like to share please email along with photos to the following email : Justine.firstname.lastname@example.org
Kindy Room 2 – Mrs Heinzman
The Kindy students have all worked very hard to produce this fantastic Gruffalo mural. The Gruffalo was our theme story this semester and the students enjoyed learning all about what happens when a clever mouse takes a stroll in the deep, dark woods and runs into a fox, an owl, a snake and … a hungry Gruffalo! First, we drew the Gruffalo and discussed and labelled all the body parts. That included the Gruffalo’s sharp teeth, spiky horns and the poisonous wart on his nose. Scary! The students then practised their cutting, gluing and collage skills and created the mouse, fox, owl and snake characters. Some highlights were adding googly eyes to our owls and cutting a spiral snake so we could hang it around the classroom. We had to watch out not to cut off the tail! We are all very proud of our Gruffalo mural.
Year 2 Room 33 – Mrs Craigie
This week in Room 33 we have been recapping our procedure writing. The students had to instruct the teacher step by step to wrap a Christmas present. This emphasised the need to be thorough when explaining the process of doing something. The students quickly noticed that they had forgotten a crucial step, applying sticky tape to the first part folded before moving on to the next fold. They were then able to fix their errors and write their own procedure text about how to catch an elf and how to decorate a Christmas tree, ensuring they were very explicit and direct with each step of instructions.
Year 3 Room 38 – Mrs Curtis
In Room 38 this term we have been brainstorming about the five senses for our writing. We have also been learning about poetry. Children in our class were using the Haiku and Shape poem structures. Here are some of the children’s work below. Big smiles after our writing. They loved sharing their poems to the class. Well done Room 38, you have done amazing work!
Maple trees swaying
Gusts of wind and wild rain
It is very cold
Water bright as steel
Cherry blossoms surround you
That’s what you call life!

SCHOOL BOARD NEWSLETTER
On Tuesday 16 November, the School Board held its annual Planning Day. The Board reviewed the recommendations from the Leadership Team, discussed the Quality, Teaching and Learning Handbook and the Whole School Improvement Plan for 2022. The School Board also reviewed in detail the data provided from NAPLAN 2021. The Board also discussed target setting for the year and how we progressed and prioritised our goals for 2021.
On Monday, 6 December, the School Board held its open meeting. It was fantastic to see parents attend the meeting, ask questions, and gain an understanding of the operations of the School Board. We look forward to many more parents attending next year.
The School Board invited the Director General, Ms Lisa Rodgers to visit our wonderful school. She attended Caladenia Primary on 9 December and spoke with students, teachers, and the student executive. She was so impressed with the wonderful “feel” and positive attitude that is Caladenia. We sincerely thank Ms Rodgers for taking the time to visit us.
As the year draws to a close, I would like to formally thank my fellow board members and the P&C. We look forward to working closely together in 2022. Finally, thank you to all the wonderful staff of Caladenia who are truly passionate about our school and who are so dedicated to our students. As a school community we are truly grateful.
Wishing everyone a very happy Christmas and a prosperous 2022.
