Affirmation
I want my children to have all the things I couldn't afford. Then I want to move in with them.
- Phyllis Diller
Dear Parents/Care Givers,
What Next?
We have started the first part of journey towards satisfying student needs for the future. We have had long sessions with staff about what is necessary for our children at Caladenia to succeed even better by adding to our successes such things as the development of Technology (STEM), scientific methodologies which encompass current trends in scientific investigations, teacher changes in leadership structures, student leadership additions and a parent development team which provides opportunities for deeper involvement in the education of your children.
The next phase of this future-proofing Caladenia is to provide forums where students, parents and School Board can offer suggestions on how to proceed with additions to our current operational objectives.
We will soon be asking for your input so please take some time to think what may be best for our children in going forward at Caladenia.
Your Move
I want to pay a direct community vote of gratitude to Mrs Wall for her Championing of the Your Move Program. She is developing student and parental attitudinal changes to alternatives modes of transport to and from school. It is working and more and more parents are walking their children to school or students riding their bike or scooter.
Thank you, Mrs Wall
P&C
We need our P&C – the P&C does more than just raise money for school needs. It is the positive voice of reason which allows parents to ask questions and get real answers to issues to do with school. We are now adding educational issues as an agenda item to the P&C meetings. Questions can be asked and information given on how school operate these days and what happens within the walls of classrooms. We believe that this will further bond our school and community together as a partnership in education.
Come along to the P&C meetings and be involved in real-time talk about school.
Kindergarten
We have been given approval to operate a further Kindy class and will be provided with another classroom for the Kindy for 2022. This is a major addition to our educational provision for Caladenia. We are growing fast and continue to be a school of choice for parents coming in to the area. We often have calls from overseas requesting information about Caladenia.
Term 4
This is a very busy Term with so many events and activities happening. Please be as patient as you can with us as we plough through the myriad of things we have to do to complete a very successful year at Caladenia. All classes have produced excellent results across the school and we are very proud of our students and teachers/staff for the hard work done to achieve these magnificent results. Well done, everyone.
We have Year 6 Camp and Graduation in the next few weeks.
We will continue to operate a Christmas Carols Assembly (16 December) day in the final week, followed by Reports handed out on the final day of school.
Education Matters
· Open Board Meeting on 6 December 2021 at 7.00pm – please attend this meeting as we can answer your questions about school governance at Caladenia. It can be a very productive evening for parents and a good opportunity to see if you could be interested in future Board membership.
· We have the MAC Parent Evening on 2 December at 6.30pm with successful parents of students who have been admitted into the Year 4 cohort of MAC students for 2022.
· The Director General of Education will be visiting the school on the 9 December 2021 – we are excited and proud to showcase our school in its “every day of the week” mantle – our school is great every day regardless of whether the DG is attending or not.
· We should celebrate our school’s successes for what we do well – we are extremely successful in the emotional/psychological growth of our students as self-regulating students as well as the academic successes in NAPLAN and whole of school Target-setting successes (in our Business Plan on-line). Thank you staff and students. You are amazing.

Animal Protection
On Friday 22 October, Caladenia welcomed some very special VIP’s from the Animal Protection Society in Southern River, Melanie and Snoop Dog. The Student Executive were honoured to be able to present the shelter with a cheque for $1268.50, money that will be used to sponsor 5 homes for dogs and cats at APS. We want to thank all of the families who generously got behind the Pyjama Day fundraiser, allowing us to maintain our close connection with one of our local charities.
ART – Year 4 Recycled Trash Animal Sculptures
The wonderful year 4’s have been working extremely hard this semester on a recyling themed project. They have created some outstanding mini sculptures inspired by the wonderful work of a Lisbon based artist, called Bordallo ii. He is an assembelege and graffiti artist, who turns trash and rubbish from the streets in to wonderful large scale animal sculptures that have a visual message about world pollution and how it affects our widlife.
Bordallo ii has worked on all sorts of animals using many different sized buildings as his canvas space. He collects all the Trash and then assembles onto the side of his chosen buildings. Some of his tallest sculptures are over 10 meters tall from the ground. The Artist has made hundreds of these quirky sculptures in many different parts of the world, with his home town of Lisbon showcasing the majority.
Our wonderful Year 4 students had to decide on which animal they would like to make using a wide range of recyled materials we had collected from plastic bottles to metal spoons and lids and make a clear message as to how that animal is affected by the junk we through away.
Using colour knowledge and a number of assembelege techniques year 4’s transfered what was once a pile of trash in to a statement sculpture that brings awareness of recyling. Huge well done to all our wonderful Artists.
Miss Ewing
Stay tuned to see them up on display soon.
Year 1 Room 41 – Miss Tai
In Year 1, Room 41 students have been learning about the weather. We have made sky observations and identified changes in the sky. We have also learnt about the special instruments that measure weather such as the thermometer, barometer, rain gauge and wind vane. Over a week, we were ‘Weather Watchers’ and made predictions and observations using weather symbols to report on the daily weather. To describe weather, we have been using a variety of adjectives to help us increase our vocabulary. It is important that you choose appropriate clothing for the weather, so ask us and we can share our suggestions.
On Monday 1st November, the Your Move Student Team visited classes from PP-Year 6 and asked the question – “How did you get to school today?” Students were able to raise their hand to show if they walked, rode/scootered or skated, came by public transport or by car.
Here are the results:
Based on the results taken in June, we have had an increase in the number of students being driven to school.
However, looking at our survey results from November last year, we are travelling very similar.
We hope that as the weather starts to get nice, sunny and warm, families take the opportunity to leave the car at home and actively to get school.
Mrs Wall – Your Move School Champion
Don’t forget to jump online and register for the Colour Run, you can also use the booklets that went home. There are lots of great prizes to be won and fundraising closes Friday 26 November 2021.
School Banking
Unfortunately, due to government decisions around regulations, the Commonwealth Bank has made the decision to close their school banking program from January 2022.
Whilst we will continue to offer weekly school banking until the end of term 4, the program will not continue next year. We encourage the children to use these last weeks to redeem their rewards and meet their next award levels.
The P&C and banking team are saddened by this decision, but unfortunately our hands are tied. Although the school banking program will finish, we encourage you to keep your child’s bank account. This will enable you to help your kids to continue to learn to save, budget and about the value of money, an important skill in life.
