The most wasted of days is one without laughter.

Dear Parents/Care Givers,
This year’s Survey included a section for Comments, and we fully appreciate the time and effort placed in making sound suggestions and observations for us to examine and change. All suggestions and ideas have been taken on as positives and we are making in-roads towards addressing all suggestions by attempting to action each item.
These are very preliminary points and actions will follow:
o Introducing fun community activities will bring our community together as a school/parent body – things like Grandparents Picnic, Fun Day with all sorts of stalls and exciting games/activities, to mention a couple – other suggestions form parents are very welcome
o Bringing more fun into the classroom along with our continued high expectations of achievement
More information and feedback to parents will be initiated as we discuss and address issues during this term. We will not leave any points unresolved and there will be positive responses and actions to every comment made in the Survey. The School Board and School Executive is keen and responsive to suggestions being addressed to further enhance the experience of students, parents and staff in our school. We have never been afraid of transparency and change in our school and, sometimes, we need to take a breath and sit back and reflect on where we are and what we are doing to see whether we are in fact balancing high achievement with fun and joyful times that we will all remember fondly of our primary school days.
We are moving positively towards this balance. We are excited to be making these changes with you and for you as your Survey Responses indicated.
Thank you for your suggestions and critical appraisal of our school – the greatly extended staff leadership structure devised in 2022 will ensure that the staff/parents and students will benefit from even closer connections.
The isolation period is now over for COVID (as of 14 October 2022). This means that no-one is required to isolate but should use good judgement with illness (as with any flu-like symptoms that we had pre-COVID). This is sure to allow us all to feel like there is an end to our loss of freedoms and fear.

2023 Student Leaders
On Tuesday 18 October, we officially presented our new student leaders for 2023 with their badges. Thank you to the large number of parents that attended to support their children. We wish the students well in their apprenticeship for the remainder of this year.
After a successful jump and throws day on Tuesday, the main carnival had a lot to live up to. There were nerves, excited smiles, and anticipation in the air. The day went smoothly with a thick smell of sunscreen and boost juice. The ribbons and stickers piled up on everybody’s shirts and the tents were filled with smiles. After a day of green and gold swapping the top spot, green came out victorious. Well done to all medal winners and congratulations to all students that competed!
Australian Chess Federation has selected Senudi (Year 3) to represent Australia in Asian Youth Chess Championships 2022 as the official player in the Under 8 Girls category. Yonal (MAC) was also selected to represent Australia in Under 12 Open category. Asian Youth Chess Championships will be held in October in Bali-Indonesia. Wish you all the best Senudi & Yonal.
At Caladenia, we love showcasing our students’ sporting achievements and events, as well as any other interests that they would like to share with our Caladenia Community.

Walk to School Day
The sun was shining brightly, and the birds were sweetly chirping as many of our families walked, rode or scootered to school on Wednesday. It was such a fantastic turn out that the teachers ran out of stickers! A reminder that if you are riding your bike or scooter to stay safe by wearing a helmet.
As the warmer weather approaches, don’t forget to Slip, Slop and Slap. You might even need to bring some shade by using an umbrella.
Kindy Information Sessions 2022
Our Kindy Information Sessions were held on Thursday 15th and Tuesday 20th of September.
This year, prior to holding the sessions, we invited our current Kindy Parents to come along to a ‘Kindy Parent Morning Catch Up’, where we asked the parents ‘what else?’ we could include in our Kindy Information Sessions, to help them and their child/children in starting Kindy. The morning catch-up was very informative and we were able to include some more information into our presentation and the handbook to assist new parents.
Our session included guest speakers from Melville Occupational Therapy and Extra Lessons for Children, our School Nurse, the P&C as well as Excelsior Dental. Parents received a special gift bag, that included lots of information about the different stages of development and what parents can do to encourage their child’s progress. The gift bag also included scissors, crayons and a pot of playdough, which was made by the staff at the school.
The next part of our Kindy Induction will be the “Readiness” sessions which will be held in November (over Weeks 5 and 6). Parents and children have been invited to participate in a session in one of our Kindy classes, so the children will be familiar with what “Kindy” is and the parents will be aware of what happens in a Kindy day at Caladenia.
I’d like to give a special thanks to all that were involved in the event, particularly the P&C for arranging Chelsea Walker to share some information about the P&C and why it is good to be involved with them and the school.
With everyone’s commitment and support we were able to provide very meaningful sessions to welcome and share information to our new 2023 Kindy families.

In term 4, for science, we are learning about our weather. Week one saw us become weather reporters and record our weather for the week. We learnt the vocabulary and symbols we need to use when discussing and recording the weather.
Also, during our shared reading sessions, we are learning about Australian animals. We will be looking at information texts and what interesting facts we can learn about some of the Australian animals. We are also looking forward to our excursion to Caversham Wildlife Park to further extent on our knowledge.
