Affirmation
As a child my family's menu consisted of two choices: take it or leave it.

Dear Parents/Care Givers,
NAPLAN
By now Year 3 and 5 students will have received their NAPLAN results from us. These were generated by the Dept of Education WA. You will be delighted to know that our students continue to outperform all like-schools (same social index) in the State. In due course next term, we will receive all the data necessary for us to be able to summarize for parents and our staff. At this stage, our results are looking very good.
Massed Choir
Thank you to Ms Skelton, Ms Rivett and staff who were helpers on the night for the tremendous performance of our students at the Massed Choir performance at the Concert Hall last Thursday night. Thank you to Ms Asplin who represented me on the night – I appreciated that help.
Our solo performance by Natasha was outstanding, I believe. Thank you. I am very proud of our students and staff, as they continue to outshine all others in their social standing and performances.
P&C
This Friday is the DISCO, run by the P&C. It is well organized and should be an amazing night of fun. Please support this event as the P&C are trying very hard to produce high quality events for our students. Thanks, Chelsea and the Executive Team. Your efforts are extremely appreciated.
Traffic-Flow
Please do not drive on the wrong side of the road. The other day, a student was very nearly knocked down by erratic driving and illegal driving practices. Please be PATIENT.
What we do
Four weeks of swimming is completing this Friday. It has been a tiring four weeks for students and staff. This activity actually exhausts a large part of our teaching time as students get back to class tired and “switched off”. The good part is that our children learn to swim and have less likelihood of drowning in pools around the State.
- 24 September –last day of Term 3.
- 11 October 2021 – First day of Term 4
- 12 October – throws and jumps School Carnival – parents welcome
- 15 October – School Carnival all day
- The Carnival will be as per last year with upgraded toilets for parents, no parents in the school yard until the completion of the day to sign out children from classrooms, a coffee van and a Boost Juice van behind the parent seating areas. Parents will not be able to access students during the day due to social distancing for Phase 5 COVID restrictions.
- Our student leaders attended a leadership session for Your Move and were applauded for their connection to the Program and their manners and work rate on the day. Thank you Ms Wall, our Your Move Champion
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL
We wish you an enjoyable time with your children over the next two weeks. May the joy of togetherness shine through your family..

Student Achievement
On September 18, the RugbyWA Junior Grand Finals were held at Larkhill Sporting Complex. Amongst the teams that made it into the Grand Finals was Year 6 students Isaiah & Malakai who play for Kalamunda Districts Rugby Union Club. They took the field in the U12s Grand Final against Rockingham Rugby Club who were undefeated all season. In an intense game of rugby Kalamunda secured the win 47 – 24 over Rockingham to become the 2021 RugbyWA U12s Junior Champions. Well done boys.
At Caladenia we love showcasing our students sporting achievements and events as well as any other interests that they would like to share with our Caladenia Community. If you have something your child would like to share please email along with photos to the following email : Justine.arnold@education.wa.edu.au

Massed Choir
The WA Massed Choir Festival was started in 1994 by a group of primary school music teachers. The first festival was held at Guildford Grammar School with just one concert. Since this beginning, the festival has grown in size and stature and is now run over nine nights at the magnificent Perth Concert Hall.
On Thursday 16th September, students from our Year 5/6 choir joined their voices with students from Mt Hawthorn, Kewdale, Lathlain, E. Victoria Park, Harrisdale, Woodlands, Wembley and Excelsior Primary Schools for the second concert in the 2021 WA Massed Choir Festival concert series. Our combined schools choir showcased the 500 students as they performed 11 songs ranging from old favourites like “Crocodile Rock” to “Against The Odds”, a brand new work commissioned specially for the 2021 WA Massed Choir Festival.
All our students performed brilliantly, but we would like to make a special mention of one of our Year 6 students, Natasha, who performed two solos on the evening. Natasha’s amazing talents were highlighted through the contrasting styles of her solos, the first one a rap and the second one leaving the entire Perth Concert Hall audience gasping in awe at her perfectly held high final note!
While we were only able to sneakily capture a couple of pictures on the day, the official video will be available for purchase from Muse Media (see QR code for link). Further information can be found on the Massed Choir Festival website, https://massedchoirfestival.org.au/
A huge thank you to Mrs Skelton and Mrs Rivett for all their hard work over the past 6 months helping to prepare the choir for this event. Thank you also to the students for their amazing efforts. The music department and the choir would like to thank Mrs Asplin, Mr Caldera and Mr Garrett for their support at the concert on the Thursday night and all the wonderful people who helped during the rehearsals and in the lead up to the concert.
Year 2 Room 12 – Miss Manuel
This term, Room 12 have been learning about the topic Location during their mathematic lessons. This involved reading maps, following directions, and identifying grid co-ordinates. Students applied their understanding by planning and coding the school robots, Dash and Dot. Students were required to get their robot Dash from point A to point B safely on the grid, by firstly planning a route and then using the iPads to code it. They were faced with the additional challenge of avoiding the obstacles that were placed within the grid. All students were eager and excited to participate and worked collaboratively to accomplish the challenge at hand.
Year 3 Room 9 – Miss Hewes
In Room 9 we have been working on making our narrative writing AMAZING by using ‘Show, Don’t Tell’. Rather than telling the reader what the character is feeling, we use lots of descriptive language to ‘show’ how the character is feeling. This has made our writing interesting to read and we have really enjoyed learning this strategy. Have a look at some of our work!
On Monday 20th September, Caladenia held a Park and Walk to school day to encourage families to park their car and walk to school. It was a sunny 14c morning and lots of our families took the opportunity to leave the car at home or park further away.
Teachers and our Student Executive were out and about, giving stickers to those that had actively gotten to school by walking, scootering or riding.
Catching up with friends is a great way to start the day! Why not make this part of your regular morning routine?
Will you join us for the next Walk to School day?
Mrs Wall – Your Move School Champion
