Affirmation
Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.
- Martin Luther King Jr
Dear Parents/Care Givers,
Emergencies
We are experiencing difficulty with some Emergency Contacts listed on our database. There are occasions when urgent medical attention is necessary and we cannot contact or have someone pick up the child. Please ensure that every Emergency person contact can be immediately available to attend to your children if required.
Thank you.
In-School Testing Week
All year levels from Year 1 to 6, have completed the NAPLAN-style testing in Week 6 of this Term. We use this data along with all data to better inform us of how our students are progressing according to our Business Plan 2021-2023 Targets. In Term 4, the staff of Caladenia review all data, discussions and other information for developing recommendations to the School Board for 2022.
All staff are involved in this Annual Internal Review Process. Our Reviews are detailed and exacting and require a commitment from all staff that what we develop will be put into effect, as it has been doing for many years now. Thank you to Mr McIlwraith and the Caladenia teachers for their extraordinary dedication and commitment to the students of Caladenia.
Burswood Performance
On Monday 9 August, our Rock Band and the School Orchestra performed at the Burswood Theatre in front of about 5,000 people. I was astounded by the standard of playing by our students – they were fantastic. Thanks to Ms Skelton, Ms Rivett and Mr Frost for their expert preparation of these students over the year. It was just wonderful and goes to show what can be done with primary-age children if we believe in them. Thank you parents, students and staff who assisted on the night – Ms Curtis, Miss Ewing and Mrs Wall.
Fathers’ Day Stalls
The P&C did a fantastic job at these Stalls in Week 6 of this Term. Thank you to all who put in the time and effort. Thanks to Ms Chelsea Walker (P&C President) and her Team – I am sure the Dads were highly impressed on the Sunday. The P&C is such a dedicated and supportive group of parents promoting and raising funds for the children of this great school. Thank you very much.
Traffic-Flow
It is disappointing to still see many parents making poor choices driving around the school in the mornings and afternoons. This morning, I observed not one but many cars driving up the wrong side of the road to capture a few seconds of time. Patience must be exercised or we will have an awful accident involving your children. Please take some extra time by observing road rules and just wait – or don’t drive to school. We are addressing some issues creating this bottlenecking in the near future with the City of Gosnells but this will not be very soon, so we ask you to
BE PATIENT AND KEEP YOUR COOL.
Kindy 2022
In 2022, Caladenia will add an extra class of Kindy children to our Early Childhood Centre. We have an extra classroom arriving for this new group as well as a new classroom for expanding numbers through the school. Caladenia’s reputation for high standards in academics and high care of children in our care, the school of choice attitude is being exercised by new parents coming in to Canning Vale.
What we do
- Swimming is not great in the middle of winter but it is tough getting the Terms we want each year – next year is worse (we will get even less choice due to the number of schools and sheer volume of size of some schools such as ours which take four weeks to complete our swimming rotations.
- 16 September – Massed Choir Performance at the Perth Concert Hall – don’t miss this event.
- We have student leaders off to the Your Move Symposium on 16 and 17 Sept – Ms Wall is doing such a great job with the organization and implementation of this Program at Caladenia – but more on this later. Thank you Ms Wall – you are a gem.
Best Wishes.
Ted Nastasi
Principal

Year 1 Room 30 – Miss Munro
Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming!
Room 30 have been having a wonderful time at swimming lessons. We are in a range of different levels learning all sorts of different things from freestyle technique to general water safety. One of our favourite parts is spending time with our Room 37, Year 6, buddy during lunch and while on the bus ride. We all realise how important it is to learn to swim so that we can enjoy the water while most importantly staying safe!
Year 5 Room 28 – Ms Avery
Room 28 recently joined the other Year 5 classes for an excursion to SciTech. We began the day by exploring our Solar System at the Planetarium. We were able to apply what we have been learning in class to the journey of the planets around the Sun, and we were very excited to use our understanding of Aboriginal Australian astronomy to identify the Emu in the Sky in the Milky Way. Later on, we explored the latest innovations in STEM solutions that will help us live more sustainably in the future. We also visited the laboratory to investigate the origins of a mysterious oil spill at a local Perth beach. We finished the day at the Perfect Firestorm show where we related our knowledge of the Noongar seasons and their weather conditions to bushfires and indigenous fire management. A huge thank you to Mr Elliott for organising this fantastic excursion.
As we have reached ‘GOLD’ status this year, we were lucky enough to receive a grant to go towards some more scooter and skateboard racks. We are hoping to have these installed by the end of the year.
Our next event is very close! Has your family and friends worked out where you’ll “Park and Walk” on Monday 20th September?
Why not use one of the reserves near our school? We have Bracadale Way Reserve, Admiralty Road Reserve or Belfast Close Reserve. Another option would be to “Park and Walk” from the end of the oval near the corner of Beauly Parade and Bushy Gardens.
Get a group together (it’s always better to travel with a friend) and plan it now!
Mrs Wall – Your Move School Champion
The P&C are still accepting payments for the Disco. Payments can be dropped in the P&C box in the front office. Last day for payment is Friday 17 September 2021.
