School of the Year 2021
Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.
Dear Parents/Care Givers,
In-School Testing Week
All year levels from Year 1 to 6, will be doing NAPLAN-style testing this week. We use this data along with all data to better inform us of how our students are progressing according to our Business Plan 2021-2023 Targets. In Term 4, the staff of Caladenia review all data, discussions and other information for developing recommendations to the School Board for 2022.
All staff are involved in this Annual Internal Review Process. Our Reviews are detailed and exacting and require a commitment from all staff that what we develop will be put into effect, as it has been doing for many years now.
Thank you to the Caladenia teachers for their extraordinary dedication and commitment to the students of Caladenia.
Please let us know immediately if your phone, address or other information has changed. We rely on all students being protected from harm by having excellent student records.
One Big Voice
I congratulate the Music Dept at Caladenia for the extraordinary work done with our Choirs who performed at the One Big Voice Concert. The students were magnificent and trained very hard for this event. Well done – you were fantastic.
I am amazed each year at how effective and in-tune our student body is to recognize the beautifully clever senior students we have. Once again, they students have chosen the best of our best with absolute aplomb. Well done, children of Caladenia.
We will be celebrating the new 2022 Executive and Faction Captains/Vice Captains/Music Captains in due course. More on these later. We are extremely proud of our student leaders as well as all of our Senior Students – they continue to show us the real values we teach and are reflected in their faces and actions each and every day. Thank you parents, for your dedication to excellence in your children. It is great team that we have at Caladenia.
What we do
Caladenia staff work hard each and every day to bring your children the best they have to offer. In doing this, the staff provide children with all the needs they require each and every day. We model solid best practices to children and expect that our children reciprocate with good manners, best social values and ‘being the best you can be’. Our students have the best reputation in the Perth community for their manners, communication skills and their good citizenship skills.
Thank you for your partnership in “growing the best” in our children.

One Big Voice
Last Friday evening 20th of August, 79 students from the Caladenia Year 3 and 4
choir were bussed to the RAC Arena in the city and joined their voices and enthusiasm with approximately 4000 other Western Australian Primary School students to create the One Big Voice Festival Choir. They performed ten life affirming and uplifting songs in harmony and with choreography to many thousands of parents and supporters. The concert sounded and looked “awesome”. The choir students have been rehearsing their song parts and choreography since Term 1. The beautiful music they made on Friday night at the festival was a testament to their dedication to attend rehearsals every week and the effort they put in to learning the songs in their own time. Mrs Skelton and Mrs Rivett feel very proud of our students and would like to thank them for their hard work, and thank and acknowledge the support students received from their parents. We would also like to thank the Administration team for their help and thank Mrs Wall, Mrs Ewing, and Mrs Curtis for giving up their Friday evening to help supervise.
Concert photos and DVD information can be found on the One Big Voice website –
2021 WA School Chess League Finals
2021 Western Australian School Chess League Finals were held on 16th August at Perth Modern School. 9 best primary school chess teams in Western Australia were qualified to play in the finals. Caladenia Chess Team consisted of the 5 top scoring players from the zonal tournaments. The Team placed 5th and thereby became one of the top 5 primary school chess teams of Western Australia this year. This was an outstanding result considering the fierce competition.
All the members played brilliantly for this success. A draw in Yonal’s game with Australia’s No 1 ranked primary school chess player was another remarkable result.
Participants: Senudi, Yonal, Tharul, Jineth and Sebastian
Congratulations to this Chess Team for their wonderful achievement.
At Caladenia we love showcasing our students sporting achievements and events as well as any other interests that they would like to share with our Caladenia Community. If you have something your child would like to share please email along with photos to the folling email : Justine.firstname.lastname@example.org
Year 1 Room 27 – Mrs Evans
We have been making these wonderful birds in our Art classes with Mr Frost! We have learned about form, shape and texture and we really loved making the nests too! Mr Frost loves telling us everything he knows about the native birds that are in his garden. Thank you Mr Frost! In our classroom, we are becoming excellent readers and fantastic writers. We love reading and being read to, and it is showing in the stories we are beginning to write. Now…let’s get back to work!
Year 3 Room 24 – Mrs Suttie
This term in Science, Room 24 has been looking at the Earth, Sun and Moon. Last week we were investigating shadows. We wanted to see if our shadow would change size and position at different times of the day, depending on where the sun was in the sky. In groups, we drew around each other’s shadow in the morning, after recess and in the afternoon. We observed that the shadow moved and changed size depending on the time of day. We used our measuring skills to see at which time of day our shadow was the longest.
In our last newsletter, we looked at some facts about staying active even in the cooler weather and tried to set a goal about actively getting to school? How did your family go? Were you able to be more active? Mrs Wall caught the bus to school once in the last fortnight instead of driving her car.
Our Park(ing) and Walk to School day is getting closer – have you marked it on the calendar? Monday 20th September – Park the car a little further and walk the rest of the way.
Why not use some of the reserves near our schools?
we have reached our Gold status for 2021
