Affirmation
"Challenges are what make life interesting. Overcoming them is what makes them meaningful."

Dear Parents/Care Givers,
Thank you to the many parents who are doing the right thing in social distancing by allowing their children into the school on their own and leaving on their own. It helps us tremendously to not have to worry so much about the safety of children and staff open to infection from visitors (parents or others) dropping off/picking up students.
A reminder to others who are entering the site regularly that we are trying to protect our students and staff from possible spread of the Virus by doing everything we can. Please do not bring your children onto the site or enter the site if you can arrange it differently (wait outside the perimeters). We are not being paranoid – we are simply trying what we can to stay healthy.
Thank you for your cooperation for the sake of your children and our staff.
Projects
Our Multi-Purpose Room has been completed and we are waiting to have some small items fixed before we commence using it. It looks terrific and is very comfortable inside.
The new walkways between the transportable classrooms will commence during the next holiday period so as to not disadvantage operation of the school.
New Bag Racks are now ready for use – we are labelling them (by room) so all students know exactly where to place their bags. These will help bags from being attacked by crows and prevent them from being overheated in summer or wet during winter.
Bikes and Scooters
Parents have made complaints to us that students are riding their bikes and scooters haphazardly after school, with near misses. Please instruct your children that riding these are a privilege and have rules attached to them (helmets, road rules, footpath protocols, etc.).
Staff are instructing them in school but a concerted effort is required to make it safe for motorists and pedestrians to share the road without incidents. Thank you.
Teaching and Learning
Caladenia works with staff and students to provide a quality education both in teaching and learning strategies. We use Explicit Instruction and Kagan strategies (Caladenia-style) to enrich our teaching and learning methodologies. We strategize our Whole School Improvement Plan each year with the inclusion of our main strategies explained within our Quality Teaching and Learning Policy, Handbook (reviewed every year with amendments to make them more efficient). Our Targets for achievement are clearly outlined within our Business Plan 2021-2023 (in draft mode currently) – the 2018-2020 version is located in our website.
The School Board and school staff (teachers and Exec) are all involved in the drafting of the Targets and strategies each year. We are scrutinised carefully (rightly so) and staff interrogate our achievements/data closely each year and set the next year’s priorities accordingly. In this way, students and parents are provided with the best practices we have to offer (researched thoroughly and for greatest effect in student improvement).
We are proud of our achievements and our standards remain high through constant review and amendment in what and how we do things.
Thank you to our staff for the wonderfully brilliant input and decision-making which goes with being the best school in WA (School of the Year).
Student Executive
Our Student Executive work very hard each year to make life a little better for our student body at Caladenia. This year has been exceptional once again for the growth and development of these leaders – they have organised and operated a full whole school Student Council (Years 1-6 student reps) and, together, have come up with some brilliant ideas for Caladenia (including the recent Animal Shelter Fund, where the student body raised over $1000 to donate to the Fund. We are proud of them as a Team and as individuals for the great work they do for our school and our community in which we live. It has not been the first initiative of community spirit our students have been involved with and we sit proudly in our community as supporters of needy organisations. Thank you, Student Exec and whole school student body. We are very proud of you.
THOUGHT: “Enjoy the little things.”
Keep well.
Kindest regards,
Ted Nastasi
Principal

Here is a photo of the some of the books in our class library that we enjoy reading.
We enjoy reading these books whilst we are at school. They are fabulous to read and very interesting. Some of the books are funny to read while others we can learn facts from. Room 14 would like to say thank you to the P&C for organising the books for us to read.
