School of the Year 2019/2020
"Education breeds confidence. Confidence breeds hope. Hope breeds peace."
Dear Parents/Care Givers,
We are officially in Phase 5 of the COVID recovery. We are still experiencing issues around the world and we must not be complacent about the pandemic itself.
We are now doing the following at school
- We are continuing to wash and sanitize hands often during the day
- We will have day cleaners staying on to clean equipment, doors, benches and toilets every day until further notice.
- We have no more limits to people moving around the school and meeting teachers and Admin staff.
- Assemblies will commence again in Term 3 of this year, albeit differently due to the restricted number of these left for 2021.
- P&C and other meetings and events will be allowed to now progress.
- Attendance at school is still compulsory but students and adults who are experiencing flu symptoms/not feeling well, should stay away until the illness has passed.
- The 2m2 rule has been taken away but the State Govt asks that the 1.5m rule still be applied for safety and health.
In essence, we are mostly back to a normal living standard unless changed by differing circumstances in other States. This is a pleasant situation and we are grateful that all of you have contributed to this circumstance – thank you for observing the rules of engagement over the past year and a half. You are a wonderful community.
Dental Screening is taking place at the moment. If you have any queries, please contact the Office.
We have a NAIDOC Assembly on Monday 28 June from 8.45am-9.30am. it is a wonderful celebration of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders history and ownership of our beautiful land, Australia. Please come along and be a part of this celebration.
The P&C is running a Krispy Kreme sale on Thursday 1 July at 2.30pm. Please support them by buying some of these delicious donuts. Thanks, P&C. You are wonderful.
Your children’s Reports will be going home on Friday 2 July with your children. There should be no surprises for you in them but please make appointments with teachers if you need to do so to discuss their progress. Thank you.
We have four (4) weeks of In-Term Swimming next term. These are designed to decrease the chances of accidents in pools in WA. Everyone should be involved in them, unless through medical reasons, children cannot attend. All schools are rostered from year to year, to different Terms due to the number of schools involved at that pool venue. We always try to get Terms 1 or 4 but that is not always possible. We do try.
We are on holidays from the 3 July to the 19 July. Students do not come to school on the 19 July – it is a School Development Day for staff only.
We wish everyone a beautiful holiday period with your children and hope that you stay safe and healthy and back to school refreshed on the 20 July.
Have a joyful holiday with your children.

On the 11th of June, Caladenia’s Girls’ Football Squad competed at the SCSSA Girls’ Football Carnival. After a tough selection process, 20 amazing girls were chosen to represent our school and compete against Excelsior, Canning Vale, Bletchley Park, Piara Waters and Campbell Primary. All the girls showed dedication and enthusiasm towards the game. It was a joy to see their skills progress tremendously in the weeks leading up to the event. In the end, the girls were extremely competitive and finished in third place! An incredible result, which was achieved through dedicated training practice and sportsmanship.
On the 22nd of June, Caladenia held its 2021 Cross-Country race on the school’s oval. After weeks of practice, all students showed fabulous enthusiasm and excellent stamina, even if it was the coldest morning Perth had seen in two years! Green faction took home the shield after receiving the most faction points during the cross-country. Faction captains Natasha and Logan gave an excellent speech to the whole school upon receiving the award. Students who placed up to 6th position in their race will be invited to join the Interschool Cross Country team for Term 3. A huge thank you to all staff and students who participated in making the 2021 Cross-Country so incredible.
The 18th of June saw Caladenia’s finest athletes come together to compete in the Winter Carnival. A selection of Year 5 and 6 students were chosen to participate in soccer, league tag, netball or football at Langford Sports Centre and Burrendah Reserve. Our B grade soccer team came joint 3rd place with Bletchley Primary School and our A grade team came in 2nd place. Our two B grade league tag teams came 3rd and 4th place and A grade placed 2nd. In netball, our A grade team placed 2nd and for football, Caladenia placed 1st! Congratulations to all our students who participated and showed incredible sportsmanship. A magnificent day was had by all. Caladenia would like to thank all the teachers, students and staff who made this event possible as well as the parents, grandparents and carers who came down to support the students.

Kevin from Year 1, participated in the AUSTA Strings Festival at Trinity College on 13th June 2021. He performed the piece Theme from Jupiter by Holst arr. Chin with his violin. Kevin received an ‘Outstanding’ mark and should be recognised for his amazing performance. Excellent job Kevin and congratulations.
At Caladenia we love showcasing our students sporting achievements and events as well as any other interests that they would like to share with our Caladenia Community. If you have something your child would like to share please email along with photos to the folling email : Justine.email@example.com
Kindy Room 2- Miss Williams
On the 10th and 11th of June the farm came to Caladenia Kindergarten in the form of Old MacDonald’s Farm. They bought goats, sheep, ducks, geese, rabbits, chickens and an alpaca. The students patted and fed the animals. We had a great time meeting Farmer Rob and Farmer Chris who shared their knowledge of how to care for the animals. We enjoyed their visit and look forward to another visit in the future!
Year 3 Room 35 – Miss Atkinson
On Tuesday the 15th, all 6, Year three classes travelled to Scitech. We had the opportunity to participate in a theatre show about Fire, a planetarium experience, an Earth Matters exhibition and free time exploring Scitech. The students wrote recounts, recalling the day’s events and all our favourite parts!
On Thursday, we conducted our most recent Hands Up Survey for the year. It was a chilly morning, however, there was no rain in sight. Compared to our last survey, families have begun to drive to school instead of being active with an increase of 5%.
Yet, when we look back to this time last year, we have an increase of students actively getting to school and 5% less travelling by car.
We would also like to recognise the below classes who have increased the number of students actively coming to school since the last survey.
PP4 Room 6
Year 1 Room 17
Year 4 Room 29 and Year 6 Room 11. Congratulations and keep up the walking, riding and scooting.
