School of the Year 2019/2020
If you really want to do something, you'll find a way. If you don't, you'll find an excuse.
- John Rohn
Dear Parents/Care Givers,
ANZAC Day Ceremony
The Student Executive ran the ANZAC Ceremony beautifully. It was a moving and respectful event where the past and present men and women of the armed forces were thanked for their unselfish service to their country in protecting our freedom each and every day.
Thank you to Mr Smyth for his wonderful work in preparing the students for this annual, unforgettable event. Thanks to Ms Ewing for her wonderful posie Horse she made for the event – it was marvelous. Thank you to the teachers for the preparation of the children for the solemn event – the students were magnificent. It was a truly beautiful Ceremony.
The P&C did three days of selling gifts to our children in preparation for Mothers’ Day on Sunday 9 May. Thank you for the wonderful effort, ladies. I am sure all of our mothers were treated to a wonderful day last Sunday from their children. Thank you P&C members – great job.
It would be very helpful if parents continued to drop their children off at the gates or from their cars or walk/ride to school. The pandemic continues to rage around the world and we tend to become a little blasé in our daily attitudes. Please keep your distance from adults and other people’s children, wash and sanitize, as we do every day at school. Socially distancing at school helps us create a safer environment for our staff and children. Please help us stay infectious free. Thank you, everyone.
Please get your children to school by 8.15am each day. Each class has a normal daily schedule of homework checks, reading to the teacher, preparing for the day and generally becoming ready for learning – not rushing and making mistakes in class. Thank you.
We commenced NAPLAN Testing on 11 May. There have been minor glitches along the way but nothing that has not been immediately fixed. Thank you to Mr Mcilwraith for preparing for these large Tests – he has done an amazing job, with meticulous cross-checking. Good luck to all our children in Years 3 and 5.
Mr Hunt is on Parental Leave at present for many weeks. Ms Henderson is replacing Mr Hunt during this leave and is doing a wonderful job. Welcome, Ms Henderson – we wish you a happy and rewarding term.
This is a Reporting Term for Semester 1. Our students will be bringing Reports home on 2 July 2021. There should be no surprises at Reporting time as staff and parents should have met to discuss each child’s progress by now.
Become one of those parents that knows everything about your child’s needs and pass on your successful home strategies to us at school. We believe this partnership to be a vital link in the success of your children.
It is a beautiful world. Strive to be happy.

On Friday 23 April, students at Caladenia participated in two ANZAC ceremonies to pay their respects to those that have made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom we enjoy today in Australia. The events were hosted by the Student Executive, who certainly captured the spirit of the day in the words they shared and the manner in which they presented. Special thanks go to the Music Department for the work they put into the songs on the day. We would also like to acknowledge Louise Ewing, our Art specialist who each year goes out of her way to create amazing artwork to compliment the day. This year’s poppy covered horse was no exception.
We are currently taking appointments for our Kindy enrolments for 2022. If you have a child born from 1 July 2017 to 30 June 2018, please call the front office to book your appointment. 6258 9350.

Year 2 Room 25 – Miss Duffill
In Year Two we have been learning about some very important Grammar concepts. Last week we learnt about synonyms. A synonym is a word that means the same of similar. You can use them to improve the language that you use every day.
As a class we brainstormed some impressive examples:
Good – great, brilliant, terrific, fantastic and wonderful.
Small – tiny, minute, miniature, teeny and miniscule.
Cold – chilly, freezing, cool, frozen and frosty.
Each of us then created our own synonym suns, now we have a bright display of some of the synonyms we know. Next time you walk past Room 25 check it out!
Year 4 Room 29 – Mr Chandler
conducting several investigations relating to undertaking fair tests. To understand how to carry out a fair test, we ran a clothing relay. Teams of different sizes, running different distances and exchanging different amounts of clothing, raced each other while Mr. Chandler changed the rules as the raced progressed.
Room 29 undertook the race in great spirits, but quickly realised that the race was very unfair. The winners were announced, amid protesting cries and we discussed how important it is to conduct fair races. We used this knowledge to consider fair tests in Science and will put our new understanding into practice over the coming weeks.
We would like to remind students who ride and scoot to school to wear a helmet that fits correctly. Students also need to be careful when riding along the footpath as it is a shared walk way for pedestrians and prams too.
The Your Move program is about promoting students actively getting to school. Each time our school holds an event such as the RAC incursion, Ride to School day, Walk to School day or a Hands Up survey it is documented on the Your Move website, which then earns us points. Can you believe that we’ve already reached Silver? We are currently working towards earning points for a scooter rack in bike rack area. How long do you think it will take us?
Mrs Nicolle Wall
Your Move School Champion
