Affirmation ∼ “What lies behind you and what lies in front of you, pales in comparison to what lies inside of you.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
Dear Parents/Care Givers,
I thank our front office staff for their due diligence in checking enrolment details each and every time we receive them. Over the years, we have found several that have not been in our local area for Caladenia. However, families that present with rentals at the time with Statutory Declarations of residing in our area, by law, must be admitted, even if later they move out of the area. This creates an enormous amount of work in checking legitimacy of addresses, so I thank our staff for this.
Claire attended our school this week for a staff professional learning session on Resilience for children and adults. We learned much from her expert knowledge and presentation. Claire will be presenting to families at the school on 14 August at 6.30pm – please watch out for this – it will be very impactful for all families to have a working knowledge of children’s needs in building resilience in their childhood development.
Unfortunately, the traffic warden for Caladenia has been away as we notified last week. However, we have staff manning the crossing in the afternoons while he is away. It is a busy crossing but staff have no legal right to stop traffic or modify vehicular movements, so the best we can do is direct students across when it is safe to do so. Laws are very particular and, as Police have informed us, we must abide by them on the Crossing. Thank you for your understanding.
Animals around the school
We ask families to be vigilant with dogs (particularly) as they have the ability to create some damage if left unattended when very young children are walking home or to school. I t hank Mr Smyth, Mr McIlwraith and Mr Chandler and office staff for attending to the potential danger with the escaped large dogs recently. They avoided what could have been a danger to our students walking home. Thanks, Team.
· The first iteration of Training for Intern Schools (schools we are helping to be schools of excellence) begins next Thursday at Caladenia. We wish all our Centre for Excellence Staff the very best in presenting to these schools.
· Parent Development Team Meeting on Tuesday 1 August at 2.45pm
· Book Week starts next week and with Book Character Dress up on Friday. More on this next week.
· Local Champions Channel 7 Awards are on Wednesday evening at the Guildford Hotel for some of our Student Exec and their parents. We wish them well and hope they come back with a prize. Good luck to us.
· Student Elections on Friday 11 August for 2024 Student Executive – polling and counts will be transparent to anyone who wishes to be at the count on Friday 11 August
· Staff will be meeting with Year 6 families in the near future to decide how we may progress the Year 6 Camp.
THOUGHT: Have a great weekend .

Pre Primary Room 5 – Mrs Patton
Pre-Primary students in Room 5 returned to school at the beginning of Term 3 eager to share their holiday adventures and wrote about this in their holiday recount. Students have been learning to sequence events in their recount writing by using words such as ‘Next; Then; Finally’. Students have also been focusing on using some correct punctuation in sentences.
Look at some of their fantastic drawing and writing!

Decorate a Door for Book Week
This term we are creating our decorated door for book week whilst learning how to navigate discussions as a whole class then working in small groups. Students took part in a vote to decide what book the class would like to represent on our Decorate a Door competition. Firstly, everyone negotiated what parts of the book will be presented on the door. The planning stage involved students deciding the small groups they would work in to develop each individual section. Students are learning how to navigate discussions within their small group and then with the whole class to ensure that their work will compliment everyone else’s in the final product. Room 37 are very excited as we see the individual pieces coming together. The final decorated door should look amazing.
