    Dear Parents/Guardians

    Well Done

Well done parents, with a reduced incidence of parking issues in the past two weeks. It seems that going in one direction around the school site is working and reducing the congestion at most points. Parking is still an issue – please observe the Kiss and Drive areas – do not park in these areas – drop off your children and take off immediately.

    Academic Notes

The School Board has successfully negotiated a successful Whole School Improvement Plan with staff to carefully acknowledge and implement the strategies and policies necessary for making the successful transitions in student achievement work for us. We have a great student achievement success rate. Please refer to My Schools website for information on our school and how we rate against other like schools

    Whole School Improvement Planning 2017

Please refer to the attached document which is our Planning guide for whole school change processes. It has been ratified by the School Board for 2017 and it refers to

    • Teachers and their development in teaching excellence = use strategies that we developed for Caladenia and researched thoroughly as best practice = so that students improve to the maximum possible levels.
    • The WS Improvement Plan 2017 works on the basis that everyone knows exactly what we do and how we do it so that there is consistency of effort across the school and effectiveness in in common understandings on how we teach every aspect of the curriculum

Parents should know this document and refer to it while reading and applying the Caladenia Business Plan 2015-2017 to gain an understanding of our targets and standards. These are on the Caladenia website.

    10th Anniversary of the School

The Committee of the Board met for the first time on 14 March 2017 and had some wonderful suggestions for the 10th Anniversary celebrations later in the year.

    School Development Day

Our whole staff will be working at Wattle Grove PS on Friday 7 April working through Moderation procedures for both schools – this process is advantageous for us all as we get a better understanding of where our results should be compared with another high performing school.

Thank you, Tracy Sartori for your eagerness and hard work in getting together a parent group that is helping our students obtain the best things we can offer them in equipment, resources and structural facilities. The school is seeking some extra sandpits with shade for the Year 1 and 2 students. We are short of playing activities for the smaller ones in our school. Thank you for your assistance in raising these funds for our wonderful school.

The April holidays are nearly upon us and we wish your families a joyous time together over the two weeks and hope that they are safe and healthy times for all of you.

I wish our staff at Caladenia a restful and happy holiday – they have committed well to the beginning of the year, both in terms of relationship building with the students and with application of our Strategies which we developed across the whole school to improve student learning. Thank you.

I will be away on leave for an extended holiday in Canada and Hawaii. I will be away from school for the last week of this term and the first week of Term 2.  Mr. Mcilwraith will be Acting Principal while I am away – I wish him well in the role.

    Thank you.

    Ted Nastasi

What we have been achieving in ART – Term 1 in Art.
    Years 1, 2 and 3

What an exciting term one it has been so far, in the Visual Arts Department. Students from all year levels have made a fantastic start to their 2017 Arts programme and are producing some beautiful work to be most proud of. Year 1 are currently exploring the topic of birds. They have created several drawings in a range of mediums to practice and explore their observational skills with a focus on line, shape and colour. The students have developed some beautiful colour and tonal studies along with some charming still life drawings of real peacock feathers. They will complete the term with some silhouette tree recordings focusing on warm and cool colour theory.

Year 2 are currently building upon their observational skills through the topic of sea life. They have recorded some fish images using line, shape, pattern and colour. They have developed some stunning colour studies of tropical fish, using watercolour crayons and a layering technique. They will finish the term with some pattern work looking at positive and negative space.

Year 3 have started a detailed project this term, with a focus on pattern, texture. They have recorded some stunning animal eyes in fine detail and used a unique shading technique along with different coloured papers to do so. Students have explored fine detail and have built up layers of colour and used mark making to produce textures of skin, fur and scales. These studies are developing well where students will use some of the various animal patterns to create some press prints and collage.

Getting to Know our School Board Members

This newsletter, Kate McCallum, Deputy Chair has outlined her reasons for joining the School Board.

    “Hi I’m Kate
I have been involved at Caladenia since 2007 when my oldest son Lochlan was a foundation student. I currently have 2 kids in year 5. I was on the school council for the first couple of years when it started and this is my second year on the school board. I have found it quite eye opening in my time on the board. It has given me a better understanding of what goes into the decisions that are made.We have a dedicated & hardworking staff here at Caladenia and I look forward to our last 2 years here.”  Kate McCallum 15 March 2017
