From the Principal’s Desk
Dear Parents and Care Givers,
We work hard to grow in ourselves as well as having high expectations for our students. On the School Development Day on 17 July, the staff reflected on our journey in our personal growth journey in our lives. It was a day spent on understanding ourselves better, living our lives fuller and with far more awareness of our emotional and psychological state. All of this is important when looking at building lasting and strong relationships with one another and with our students.
I am so grateful for our staff – they are wholly committed to our students and their care and nurturing of each and every one of them, allows us to have the school we do. It is a wonderful place to be because of the work all of our staff do to insist on the whole jigsaw which is Caladenia is firmly in place – dress standards, work standards, love of all, good manners, social skills, ability to communicate with all people, classroom standards, academic standards, and so on, all contribute to the jigsaw – we are careful to look at it often to make sure that everything is working to the standard we and you expect for your children. Well done, staff of Caladenia.
We are having a rest year from the Fun Night this year and the Whole School Concert. Next year, we will be having the Concert for the whole school once again, with some changes. The next Fun Night will occur in 2019. However, we need far more volunteers if we are to make t hese events workable. Please see your P&C President or members and let them know you are keen to help. Thank you.
Minister for Education Visit
The new State Minister for Education will be visiting the school on 11 August 2017. We are excited to be able to showcase our wonderful school. I am sure she will be very impressed with what she sees and hears.
You may already be aware that this year is our 10th Anniversary for Caladenia. We are planning some exciting events such as a large metal and ceramic tree – it will consist of a tree with ceramic leaves being made and added by every student in the school – it will look fantastic. We are also having an Anniversary DVD for each family of an aerial shot of every student at Caladenia, a Time Capsule, a Ceremony (November) for the whole community supported by the P&C, a Photo Wall of the history of Caladenia and smaller events along the way. Keep an eye out for these as they appear on our webpage and Newsletters.
Please do not park in the staff car bays in the mornings as staff have nowhere else to park – and it is unsafe to park on the street as they have to leave their cars there for the whole day. Also, if you are parking your car in our car bays for the whole day and catching the bus to work, please do not continue this practice – it is unfair to parents and visitors who come to drop off or pick up children in the mornings and afternoons.
Music Festival at Burswood
The Junior Choir will be performing at the Burswood Crown Theatre. The event attracts around 3000 people for each night. It is a superb night of musical events and if you have never been, I would urge you to buy some tickets and see our students (and other schools) perform – they are a quality group of students and do a wonderful performance.
This year it is on 29 August 2017 at 7.00pm.
Our Senior Choir will be performing at the Concert Hall on the 20 September and is a wonderful night of entertainment – again, our students are wonderful performers. This is a 400 strong choir from several schools performing popular songs. Get along if you can – the students would be delighted to see you there supporting them.
Art – Banners on the Terrace
What’s been happening in Visual Arts
Our wonderful Students in the MAC class, took part in the city of Gosnells “Banners on the Terrace” competition in term 2. Students had the opportunity to work collaboratively with a wonderful outside artist, Charlotte O’Shea, in creating a large banner design to represent the city of Gosnells.
Students worked in small groups, exploring different aspects of what they thought would represented the City of Gosnells and came up with the title ‘the hands that built Gosnells’. The students focused on people and community spirit. They decided on a boarder of hands to show unity in the community of all ages groups and growth of buildings, places and play areas.
I am very proud to announce that the MAC class won the competition and the design has been professionally printed on vinyl and is due to be flown along St Georges Terrace on Sunday 23rd July – sat 5th Aug So check it out over the weekend in the CBD.
The selection panel commented on the high standard of all the entries and Charlotte, the visiting artist said it was a real pleasure to work with such an outstanding group of students who were enthusiastic, creative and committed the whole project through.
The City of Gosnells has framed all the competition entries and they will be on exhibit in the Whitely Room at the Agonis Building in Gosnells in the following weeks. Date to be confirmed. So watch this space for updates to check out the exhibit.
On Monday 24th July we held the School Cross Country Carnival. All students from Years 1-6 competed in the Carnival and showed off their improved fitness and long distance running ability. Getting to Know our School Board Members
This newsletter I have outlined my reasons for joining the School Board.
“My Name is Carole and I am the Chair of the Caladenia School Board. I have been actively involved with Caladenia Primary since the school opened in 2007. Both of my children attended Caladenia, but have now moved on to their secondary education at Canning Vale College. However, I still remain passionate about our wonderful school. The teachers and staff of Caladenia are a professional and dedicated group of people who care about our students and the school community.
I have found volunteering at Caladenia to be a wonderful experience. Not only have I learnt about the education system, I have met some amazing people over the last 10 years and have made lifelong friendships. Volunteering is a rewarding experience and it gives me an opportunity to give something back to an outstanding school who have done so much for the education of my children. I encourage everyone to become involved in supporting our school.
Happy 10th anniversary Caladenia!”
