    From the Principal’s Desk

    Dear Parents/Care Givers

Thank you for your continuing support of our school during COVID-19.

    PROJECTS

Our Multi-Purpose Room has commenced construction this week. We have a completion date of 30 July 2020. We are looking forward to being able to use the facility for student Clubs, Computing, Science and Pre-School Parenting Sessions. We are still awaiting approvals for the covered walkways and other maintenance items.

    Business Plan 2021-2023

The School and Board are currently drafting our next triennium Business Plan which includes revised Targets, goals and objectives for the school’s future. this Plan provides the community with a pathway for improvement to be an ongoing facet of our excellence in education philosophy.

    Teaching and Learning

We have several of our permanent staff on Parental Leave and so new staff who are continuing their programs. It is apparent now that we have swung into our regular teaching programs in all classes as before COVID. This means that all teaching staff are using our successful Caladenia Explicit Instruction and KAGAN models to teach and engage students 100% of the time in the classroom. With this return to some form of normal, we expect that teachers will become familiar with student needs and directions for the rest of the year – meetings may follow to inform parents of student progress as Reporting will not inform much this Semester as we have hardly seen all students this year.

Last day of term 2, Friday 3 July

Thought: ” It’s not about perfect. It’s about effort.”

    Keep well.

    Cross Country

This year’s Cross Country carnival was a little different with the top 5 boy and girl students from each class in years 1-6 selected to take part in the event due to COVID-19 restrictions. The first year groups in years 3-6 took place before recess and went off without a hitch and we saw some fantastic races.

After recess, with some dark clouds looming, we pushing through the remaining year groups to make sure everyone got a run on the day. Again there were some great races and tight results. All participants earned points for their faction. It was great to have a lot of atmosphere for the races with parents coming down to spectate and classes watching from inside the oval fence and cheering loudly as runners were on the home stretch.

The next morning we presented medals to our winners out the front of the school after announcing to the the whole school over the PA. In a very tight finish Blue faction just pipped Green faction by a meagre 3 points! Followed by Gold then Red.

Well done to all participants and well done to all students who have been working hard in their PE lessons all term to get personal best times in the lead up to the event.

    Class  News

    Year 1 Room 21

The Year 1 students in Room 21 have been learning about living and non-living things in Science. We explored what living and non-living things were and what living things need to survive. Last week we planted some Cress seeds to explore how living things grow and wrote a daily journal to record our observations. This week we have enjoyed seeing our Cress grow even bigger, and began exploring the pasts of the plant including the roots, stem and leaves.

The Year 1 students have also been learning how to write a recount. Using the experience of planting the Cress seeds, students wrote a recount. Students made sure that they were following the recount structure, with an introduction, the events and a conclusion. Students used ‘wow’ words in their writing, ‘buzzing’ with excitement about watching their Cress seeds grow.

    Year 5 Room 15

Early this term the students in Year 5, Room 15, completed a Science project. They chose a scientist that they were interested in and created an A3 poster, displaying interesting facts about their scientist. Mrs Santini is so proud of the excellent effort her students put into this project. Here are a few examples.

    Entertainment Book Fundraiser

The new Entertainment Book flyer was sent out to students last week. This is a great opportunity to support our school with no physical interaction.

With phase 3 Covid-19 restrictions easing, this is a wonderful way to help out local businesses. The APP has many discounts for restaurants, shopping, activities, take-away and travel. The membership is available in digital form only which is a great way to always have it available.
