    School of the Year

    From the Principal

Phase 3 of the Government’s plan to get back to some form of normal is in progress from Monday 8 June 2020.

I have sent home letters to families indicating the changes for Phase 3. You will notice that one of the points is regarding parents maintaining the current status of not entering the school due to the very fact that only 100 parents are allowed on site at one time and that creates a real operational issue with us and all schools across the State. The 2m2 rule applies as does the 100/300 rule and in a school setting, that is nearly impossible.

Also, we have found that students have found a new sense of confidence and resilience not seen before COVID-19…students are happy to walk into school on their own and to class. Parents have commented openly on how well the system of entry and pick-up works and will be doing this everyday regardless. Thank you to the many parents for your supporting letters and emails to us at Caladenia.

We are back to close to 100% attendance rates for Caladenia and that means a new normal for us – we have to catch up on the work missed as well as progress the students to our stated Targets for 2020 – that will be some task, knowing how much time we have missed this year over COVID.

    PROJECTS

There are several projects developing in the school this year. These are meant to make life a little better for our students and staff. These are

    • Covered walkways for the transportables so students don’t get wet or too hot.
    • Bag shelving to protect and hold bags safely from the elements in summer and winter
    • Beautifying the landscape around the school (particularly around the transportable buildings
    • We are hoping the multi-purpose room will commence soon.

Other projects will be mentioned if we have sufficient funds for them.

If you have not had the opportunity to refer to our Review Report (from the Dept of Education December 2019), please go to the Department site and click ‘Find a School’ – then go to ‘Reports’ – look up Public School Accountability and it will download the full report for you.

We would love you to read it – it is as much about the community as it is about what we do at school every day and do it very well – it substantiates our School of the Year Award.

THOUGHT:      “Stars can’t shine without darkness.”

Keep well – Keep being vigilant for the sake of our most precious resource – our children.

    Kind regards,

    Ted Nastasi
    Principal

    Football Jersey Competition

The long awaited announcement of the winner of the football jersey competition is here and the winner is……. Alex Crofts – Year 6 Alex won the competition after submitting his design for the new jerseys among hundreds of others. The designs were displayed outside the undercover area at the end of last year and were voted on by members of the staff. After a close finish, Alex’s design came out on top which includes a large ‘C’ for Caladenia, a swoosh at the back behind the numbers and a part of the school logo on the front. When asked how he felt about winning Alex said it was ‘pretty good’ and added – ‘I hope this jersey sees a lot of wins in our interschool competitions!’

Unfortunately, we won’t see them in action this year but they will be a welcome addition to the interschool AFL matches in 2021.

    Well done Alex!

    Class  News

    Pre Primary Room 6

This week in Pre-primary 4 we are learning the ‘oo’ digraph (as in book.) The children practised writing the digraph using correct letter formation. They then brainstormed some ‘oo’ words which they put into sentences, remembering capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. For their craft activity the children made a Cookie Monster which required them to follow directions and use their problem solving skills.

    Year 4 Room 20

The Year 4 students in Mrs Harris room, Room 20, have been hard at work, researching Famous Explorers. The students have designed terrific posters including a log book entry, the explorers voyage map and interesting facts about their explorer. The students have enjoyed being creative with their posters and presentations and they look fantastic.
