    Dear Parents/Care Givers

    Let’s Celebrate

Primary School of the Year Award 2019

    Well, we did it.

Congratulations to our whole school community. Being School of the Year is not just about the work of staff and students, it is also the work of the community in developing an atmosphere of trust, confidence and integrity in what we do and how we go about doing it. Planning for the future is in the hands of the staff and the School Board (on behalf of the community), as well as listening to our students’ needs. We have a collaborative approach to work and, at all times, use whole school decision-making to inform our future directions. Thank you to the many parents who have, over the years, helped shape our school by the collaborative approaches of P&C as well as individuals and groups. We are proud of our school and it shows – thank you to the many congratulations passed to us from parents, schools, agencies and the Dept of Education. We thank the Teacher’s Health Fund and the Dept for their trust in voting us the best. We knew we were on the right track but it is so much more affirming when our peers in education recognize the great work we do with our students and community. Thank you all for your tremendous contribution in making us great and hope the future holds much more of the same amount of goodwill and solid planning for continued improvement.

    Government Funds for Maintenance

Work will be starting soon on painting of our doors and downpipes, paving and greening the school’s garden beds. This is from the State Government’s maintenance program for all schools in WA, and we thank the Govt for this injection of funds for Caladenia.

Staff have analyzed data for the 2019 NAPLAN Tests for our school. We have performed amazingly well in all areas of Year 3 but need to review our strategies in Years 3-6 as we lost some momentum in most areas except Writing which was our focus for 2019. In essence, we need to improve our progress from Year 3 (Term 1) to the end of Year 6 in Reading, Spelling, Grammar and Maths by re-focusing our plans and teaching strategies to these year levels.  However, we are still above like-schools such as ours and well ahead of most schools in the State. A very impressive set of outcomes for 2019. More on this later when we are ready to publish our full analysis.

    Public School Review

Ours school will be assessed by the Dept of Education in Week 8 of this term. This is an external review process after we have self-reviewed our school (as is the annual process for Caladenia). Staff, students and parents (including the School Board) will be reviewed by the Panel – we should be a high performer by all counts in this Review Process.

    Athletics Carnival

Good luck to all our Athletics Team for Friday at the Interschool Sports Day at Ranford PS. We hope all students represent us with enthusiasm and great sportsmanship to others and have a lot of fun doing so. Go Caladenia.

Thought of the Day: – Winning isn’t everything but it sure does make everyone feel good.

    Kind regards,

    Ted Nastasi

    Student Achievement

It was with great efforts that Tatum (Year 3) got silver over the weekend in his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Competition in Melbourne Pan Pacific 2019. Tatum was representing his gym, Legion 13 Western Australia. Well done Tatum.

    Colour Explosion 2019

On Friday 25 October, Caladenia exploded in a cloud of colour during our second Colour Run.  Hosted by the P & C, hundreds of students quickly turned pristine white shirts into a sea of colour.  A real feature of the day was the inclusion of a fire truck, with firefighters ensuring all the students were saturated before being covered with colour. Thank you to Ms Vanerheld for organising the truck.  We really appreciate them giving up their time to make this the best run ever.  The Student Executive also discovered that water pistols v water cannons can only have one winner!  A special thank you to Mr McIlwraith, Mel Watts, Rob Ranalli and the Student Executive who set up the event.  Thanks also to members of the P & C who gave up their time to spread the colour on the day.  By the smiles on the kids’ faces, a great time was had by all.

    Student Leaders 2020

On Monday 21 October the student leaders for 2020 were recognised at a Badge Presentation Assembly attended by students from Years 3-5 and many parents.  We are excited to begin this journey with elected students and wish each of them much success and growth over the coming year.  These students will serve an apprenticeship for the remainder of 2019, culminating in the newly elected Student Executive running the 2019 Year 6 Graduation on Friday 13 December.

    Class  News

    Kindy 2B and 3B

This term the Kindergarten classes have dived deep into learning about the theme ‘Under the Sea’. We have enjoyed the literacy, numeracy and fine motor skills activities of reading stories, singing songs, making a mural, building sandcastles and sculpting playdough sea creatures. We also created a jellyfish with tentacles to demonstrate a three step pattern and wrote a simple sentence using our sight words! The Kindergarten students’ motto is ‘we got no troubles, life is bubbles, under the sea’!

We are currently looking for more helpers for School Banking on Friday mornings between 8am-8:30am. As two of our existing volunteers will be moving on next year, extra volunteers are desperately to replace them.  Volunteers would work with existing experienced volunteers. Even if you can only help a couple of days per term, it makes a real difference. If you’re interested, please contact the P&C.

We welcome all members of our community to volunteer with the P&C during 2020.

Please email caladenia_pc@hotmail.com for further information or attend our AGM.

If your child is in Kindy to year 5 and will not be returning to Caladenia Primary for 2020, could you please advise the front office in writing as soon as possible. Thank you
